In Africa, survivors of human trafficking face significant challenges as they strive for empowerment and opportunities in leadership. Currently, there is a notable absence of resources and mechanisms to nurture the potential of emerging survivor leaders. The existing coalitions and anti-trafficking movements encounter a shared challenge: effectively integrating survivors into their initiatives. This impedes survivors’ ability to engage meaningfully and reach their leadership potential. Urgent action is required to develop tailored strategies and frameworks that can facilitate the progression of survivors into leadership positions and also support survivor-led initiatives.

The establishment of an African Survivor Coalition, led by survivors themselves, is of paramount importance. It serves as a catalyst for promoting survivor leadership, survivor-led initiatives and playing a substantial role in shaping anti-trafficking policies and programs.

The African Survivor Coalition acts as a collaborative community addressing survivor challenges on their path to empowerment and leadership, while amplifying their voices in anti-human trafficking efforts.
