In Africa, survivors of human trafficking face significant challenges as they strive for empowerment and opportunities in leadership. Currently, there is a notable absence of resources and mechanisms to nurture the potential of emerging survivor leaders. The existing coalitions and anti-trafficking movements encounter a shared challenge: effectively integrating survivors into their initiatives. This impedes survivors’ ability to engage meaningfully and reach their leadership potential.

Urgent action is required to develop tailored strategies and frameworks that can facilitate the progression of survivors into leadership positions and also support survivor-led initiatives.

The establishment of an African Survivor Coalition, led by survivors themselves, is of paramount importance. It serves as a catalyst for promoting survivor leadership, survivor-led initiatives and playing a substantial role in shaping anti-trafficking policies and programs.

The African Survivor Coalition acts as a collaborative community addressing survivor challenges on their path to empowerment and leadership, while amplifying their voices in anti-human trafficking efforts.

  • To empower and strengthen survivor leaders, enabling them to develop capacities to create programs, initiatives and realize their aspirations.
  • To establish a resilient movement of empowered survivor leaders, with representation from all 54 African nations.
  • To foster connections between survivor-led organizations, donors, and partners, bridging critical gaps.
  • To advocate for policies informed by survivors, aimed at reducing vulnerabilities, enhancing victim protection, and fortifying legal frameworks.

To envision a network of empowered survivor advocates from all 54 African nations thriving and inspiring change to combat human trafficking.

To empower, unite and amplify the voices of African survivor leaders in global anti-human trafficking efforts, with a shared goal of ending human trafficking and supporting victims and survivors.
